In early 2019 I started reading scripts as an internship. I read over 200 of them; most of them were terrible, some of them were ok, a rare few were great, but only one was optioned by No Sunrise Wasted as their next film.
By that point I had developed enough as a critic that I was brought on to develop the script with the director and author. We spent a year on it, fine tuning and evolving this complex story into a succinct and affordable script.
After spending all this time working with the director on this script I had become so familiar with the project (and him) that I was offered the role of Associate Producer. I got to location scout, audition the actors, secure product placement, and sit in on budget and schedule meetings.
When it finally came time to shoot I took on the additional role of Second AD, working on set all 20 days of shooting. My Associate Producer duties did not stop here though; every day after wrap the producer team met late into the night (that is, morning) and worked out the various issues that had arisen that day. In addition to writing up call sheets and Ex. Gs, I was helping with stunt rehearsal, contacting vendors, purchasing wet-suits, staking out locations, you name it!
Overall it was an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything (despite the many late nights, literal blood, sweat, and tears), and it was what finally convinced me to commit to getting out of Architecture and making a career in show business.
